Technology growing factor in FM sector development
Dr Marie Puybaraud emphasises the invasion of technology in operations
The adoption of technology should help improve services provided by the FM industry, and the sector should not shy away from transitioning to its increased use, according to Dr Marie Puybaraud.
Dr Puybaraud, director of Global WorkPlace Innovation (GWi), Global WorkPlace Solutions’ Research & Development program, at Johnson Controls, told fmME that the industry needs to be aware of changing user demands and adapt to those.
She said: "Pay attention to the changes, adapt your service in accordance to that - especially with the user experience."
Dr Puybaraud said it's impossible to escape technology, and explained that the FM industry needed to embrace the new technology as fast as possible.
"If we keep the same amount of people on-site, FM is not going to be a competitive industry. Technology should – because I have no guarantee yet that it would, but it should – improve the level of services. And I think the technology we have arriving on the market will definitely do that – we have evidence that they can.
"But FM really needs to catch up fast with it," she concluded.
The full interview with Dr Puybaraud will be in the April issue of Facilities Management Middle East.
