Al Nasr Contracting opens Erbil office
CEO says company's current backlog for 2013 stands at over $185m
Abu Dhabi-based infrastructure specialist Al Nasr Contracting Co has opened an office at Erbil in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
"The set-up is now complete there and we will be seriously targeting some jobs," the company's CEO, John Helou, told Construction Week.
The city of Erbil has witnessed several new investment announcements - particularly regarding leisure and hotels projects - within recent months, and Helou said the market has potential for contractors.
"There is more said than done, but it certainly looks promising. The country – I would say that it feels like the UAE 30 years ago."
UAE-based Al Nasr Contracting was founded in 1973. It reached a turnover of just over $190m (AED: 700m) in 2012, but Helou said that its current backlog for 2013 is already running at over $185m (AED: 680m).
"We believe we have a very good start where we are today. We’re still very early on in the year.
"One thing that is guaranteed is that our full manpower is secure for 2013."
The full interview with John Helou will appear in issue 458 of Construction Week.
