Giant bins designed to speed up excavation have been delivered to siteworks to pumping station in Al Wathba.

Each cost AED350,000 and is capable of shifting 12 cubic metres of earth at a time – the biggest ever used in the UAE.

It means a digger in a deep excavation hole can fill the giant bin with earth, which is then hauled out by crane and the design allows it to tip and empty the contents then returned to the excavation area in one move.

The PAL C 12000Lbins were specially designed and manufactured for this project and took 16 weeks to be designed, built and imported from France before arriving on site on Wednesday, 6 March.

The bins were supplied by Machinery Enterprises, whose spokesman Naja Kobrossi told Construction Week: “Each bin required four months in designing, manufacturing and testing by BVQI. Such bins with such capacities have never been procured in the Middle east, Africa or the Gulf.

“It was a very strange enquiry, the capacity of the bins requested was unheard of but we took the initiative of replying and quoting. We quoted just to meet our company’s policy, to reply on each and every enquiry but it never crossed our minds that this enquiry is serious. It took a lot of time, effort, designing but we are here.”

The company said that its involvement with this prestige project has shown that it can meet unusual demands.

“We took our chances because we saw that this project would take our company to a higher level and put us in a different category. Our financial profit in this project is almost non existing, our real profit is in the exposure and marketing after these bins are delivered to the client.

“The client's project is a very high-profile, government-owned projects, world contractors, advisors, consultants will be keeping a close eye.

“After this project we are confident that we can handle any unusual request. We can tailor-make any request."
