Six bidding to build huge Al Mirfa power plant
ADWEA facility to produce 1,600MW of power and 52.5m gallons per day
Bids from six international consortia have pre-qualified for Abu Dhabi's Al Mirfa independent water and power project (IWPP).
The plant, which is being built by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, will produce 1,600MW of power and 52.5 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
ADWEA will now assess the bids and is expected to sign a contract with the winning consortium by July, while other contracts and agreements relating to the bid should be signed by September 15, according to director-gebneral Abdulla Saif AL Nuaimi.
The winning consortium will build the plant through a public-private partnership deal under a build-operate-transfer model.
Al Mirfa is the tenth project to be built under a PPP model in Abu Dhabi and is part of the emirate's effort to meet an increasing demand for power and water, which ADWEA says "creates new opportunities for developers".
