Jeddah Mayor opens 2013 Big 5 construction show in Saudi Arabia

Jeddah Municipality Mayor, Dr. Hani Mohammad Aburas, has officially inaugurated The Big 5 Saudi, taking for its third consecutive year. The Kingdom’s largest event for the building & construction industry will be hosted at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events from 9-12 March.

Spanning two complete halls, with an area of 10,000 m3 each, the show will host more than 550 exhibitors from 36 countries showcasing a huge breadth of new technologies and products from heavy machinery to fit-outs. The Mayor met with a selection of VIP dignitaries before being given a guided tour of the exhibition on Saturday, March 9.

As well as the exhibition, there will be a number of added value elements to this year’s event, including the return of the Concrete Zone: a dedicated arena for those working within this booming sector to showcase their products and services, as the region works towards a forecasted $968bn worth of investments in the industry. There will also be two education workshops, with the return of both the LEED focused sessions, looking at the application of green rating systems in the region, and the popular Concrete Repair workshop.

“In response to the ongoing demand, several new project announcements will solidify Saudi’s influence on construction business in the region for the foreseeable future and The Big 5 provides an opportunity for local buyers and worldwide suppliers to come together and do business.”

An estimated $613bn worth of construction projects are expected to be completed in Saudi Arabia over the next five years, according to a report from Zawya commissioned by The Big 5 Saudi 2013.The Big 5 Saudi will see significant participation from international companies looking to capitalise on opportunities within the Kingdom’s construction market.

The Big 5 Saudi takes place at Jeddah Centre for Forums and Events.

The commissioned report, Saudi Construction Market: Unveil Opportunities Ahead, revealed that Power & Water and Real Estate represented the most significant sectors of current construction in the Kingdom, with 32.9% and 32.2 pe of the total respectively.
