Macro International turns integrated FM provider

Client demand has driven the firm to offer maintenance services too

Macro International in the UAE is now putting an emphasis on its maintenance division – Macro Technical Services – with its ability to also provide MEP services coming into play.

Bill Heath, managing director, asserted in an interview with fmME that while the firm is largely known in the region as a consultancy, it does "so much more than that."

He explained that historically, the firm’s role in the FM industry in the region has been of a management kind – supporting clients and sub-contracting services.

"It certainly is a change in our normal dimension of just being a consultancy company, because [that is how we are] largely known in this region," Heath said.

Heath said the push towards setting up Macro Technical Services has been largely by client thinking, and the firm wanting to deliver what it believes is a better service.

"The primary reason to go for maintenance in Macro Technical Services is because we see that as one of the critical services in the built environment.

"In addition, if the maintenance of the building is done correctly, you actually maintain the asset value of the building. And that is adding considerable value to a client."

Macro has a number of projects already where it is regarded as the integrated FM provider, where it still sub-contracts services like cleaning, but delivers the maintenance service itself. These include Skycourts, Madina Tower, a major UAE school campus, and a number of corporate clients in DIFC.

Heath concluded: "It’s our way into the FM space to deliver a service we think is the best."
