Call for Qatar govt to favour local consultancies
Priority to be given to local companies, or partnerships entered into
Qatar's Advisory Council has urged the government to give priority to local engineering consultancies in awarding projects, and to insist on a partnership with a local consultancy if the project has to be awarded to an international firm.
The Council made the call while debating amendments to the law that regulates the profession and practice of engineering consultancies.
A key recommendation was that a nine-member committee be formed to classify and license consultancies and engineering practices.
These members will include the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, the Interior Ministry, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Qatar Petroleum, Civil Defense and Qatar University.
While engineers are licensed for three years, it was recommended that consultancies receive a two-year renewable license.
