CW Awards Oman: Bahwan is Contractor of the Year

Firm displayed abilities on a range of complex projects say judges

Bahwan Contracting Company has been named Contractor of the Year at the Construction Week Awards: Oman.

The company was described by the judges as a capable contractor working on small to mid-size projects. With a good HSE record, comprehensive HSE policies and a collaborative approach to clients, the judges said the company has demonstrated it abilities on a selection of multi-disciplinary projects.

DC Munshi, general manager of Bahwan Contracting Company, led the team collecting the prize, which was presented by Paul Floyd managing director of the event's Gold sponsor FAMCO.

"We feel we won because we worked on a prestigious project, not only for the country but for the whole GCC," said Munshi.

The project in question was special hospital, built to the latest international standards, and describe as of 'immense importance to people with special needs'. the project was completed over a period of roughly two and a half years and at its peak had 2300 workers on site. the project was completed with 15 million man hours without a lost time injury.

Highly commended in the category was Larsen & Toubro, a company the judges praised for being a leading contractor, undertaking complex, major projects in Oman. the judges noted the success of its proven track record and its growing order book.

The award was announced at a gala ceremony held in Muscat, which saw 12 accolades presented to a selection of industry leading companies, projects and individuals.

Selected finalists from the Construction Week Awards: Oman will get a further chance to claim success at the GCC edition of the Construction Week Awards, to be held in Dubai, on 11 December.

Entries to the awards were submitted online and winners were selected by a panel of nine judges.

This is the second year Construction Week has run an awards programme in Oman.
