CW Awards Oman: Kameshwar Rao wins engineer prize
Al Hassan engineer scoops individual gong
Kameshwar Rao of Al Hassan has been named the Engineer of the Year at the Construction Week Awards: Oman.
Rao was praised for his insistence on safety, excellent coordination and communication skills. His ability to perform detailed planning and programming, accurate costing and produce quality deliverables were also noted by the judges.
"As a professional he clearly believes that knowledge increases with sharing and in training and developing junior engineers to take on more responsibility," said one judge.
Rao was presented with the award by Salim Al Hashmi of local partner Al Nimr.
He said: “I am very pleased. I like my people always with me and to win this I have many people behind me. They deserve recognition, they deserve to share in this award.
“I’d also like to thank the management and the head of department who have supported me.”
Rao was highly commended in last year’s awards. He said: “Since then I have improved my qualifications as well.”
Muhammad Sultan Al Salmy, from Hoehler + Partner, was highly commended in the category. The judges said he should be recognised for the excellent efforts in the successful delivery of GUTech campus, a building that showed innovative design ideas, as well as a modern take on Omani Architecture.
The award was announced at a gala ceremony held in Muscat, which saw 12 accolades presented to a selection of industry-leading companies, projects and individuals.
Selected finalists from the Construction Week Awards: Oman, which was sponsored by Famco, will get a further chance to claim success at the GCC edition of the Construction Week Awards, to be held in Dubai, on 11 December.
Entries to the awards were submitted online and winners were selected by a panel of nine judges.
This is the second year Construction Week has run an awards programme in Oman.
A full review of all the winners will appear in the March 30 issue of Construction Week.
