CW Awards Oman: Carillion Alawi wins HSE award
Company singled out by judges for structured & well applied HSE plan
Carillion Alawi claimed the award for HSE Initiative of the Year at the Construction Week Awards: Oman.
The company was singled out by the judges because of its structured plan, which they believed was well applied.
"The winner is consistently good at HSE management and its approach to site works," said one judge.
The current initiative, which relates to awareness and the creation of a health and safety culturewas described as clear and well documented.
Ankur Bhuria, regional HSE manager, picked up the award on behalf of Carillion Alawi from Gary Wright, editor of Construction Week, the event's organiser.
"I think health and safety starts for us at all levels," he said. "We are the ones that will lead HSE in all our fields and we lead by setting an example. We believe we are here to change the behaviour of operators. Once behaviour is changed you don't have to teach that person again, because he is thinking safe."
Bahwan Engineering Company was highly commended in the category, for using its "Strive to Drive" initiative as an excellent approach to a major problem with traffic safety within Oman.
The award was announced at a gala ceremony held in Muscat, which saw 12 accolades presented to a selection of industry-leading companies, projects and individuals.
Selected finalists from the Construction Week Awards: Oman, which was sponsored by Famco, will get a further chance to claim success at the GCC edition of the Construction Week Awards, to be held in Dubai, on 11 December.
Entries to the awards were submitted online and winners were selected by a panel of nine judges.
This is the second year Construction Week has run an awards programme in Oman.
A full review of all the winners will appear in the March 30 issue of Construction Week.
