DM's waste management team looks for ambassadors
Training will be provided to add to the pool of 120 qualified students
Dubai Municipality is creating the "Ambassadors of Sustainability" programme to hold green initiatives in educational Institutions.
Husain Gulam, head of administrative support section at DM waste management department, said: "Ambassadors of Sustainability is a programme Dubai Municipality has been implementing collaborated with educational institutions aiming to train students who are interested to work for sustainable environment and waste management activities across the emirate."
According to Gulam, the Dubai Municipality will train the students on how to carry out lectures and workshops on various environmental topics. The civic body will also host workshops on how to practice sustainable waste management by reuse and recycle methods.
He added that Dubai Municipality has separate training packages for secondary and higher secondary school students, and college students.
The programme's training sessions have already started, and will go through several phases before finishing by August 2013.
Abdulla AbdulQader Al Ghaffari, head of customer service unit at DM waste management department said: "After systematic trainings they will be qualified as Ambassador of Sustainability and will be deployed to conduct lectures, workshops and to carry out field visits to targeted institutions."
Hamda Al-Murr who heads sustainable waste management team at Dubai Municipality who is also an expert in delivering sustainable waste management workshops said civic body is now awarding qualified students with Ambassador of Sustainability certificates.
"We train them how to speak and debate on various environment matters. Those who proved ability in art works will be given training on how to convert waste items to useful objects" she explained.
Dubai Municipality has trained hundreds of students so far and the Ambassador of Sustainability pool has 120 qualified students already.
