Parsons Brinckerhoff confirms $87m Qatar road deal
Company will supervise and manage a $1bn contract for a 26km road
UK-based contractor Balfour Beatty has confirmed that its professional services division, Parsons Brinckerhoff, has landed an $87m (£56m) contract form Qatar's Public Works Authority, Ashghal, for pre-tender and post-tender professional consulting services for the Qatar Expressway programme.
The contract was one of $2bn worth of deals announced by Ashghal last week. Parsons Brinckerhoff's element involves the design of a 26km (16-mile) stretch of highway with grade-separated interchanges and bridges.
The firm said that its work will be carried out in offices worldwide.
The estimated construction cost for the project is over $1bn, and Parsons Brinckerhoff will carry out contract administration and supervision.
Balfour Beatty chief executive Andrew McNaughton said: "This win demonstrates the economic infrastructure skills and capability within the Group that we can bring to bear in growing markets globally.
"We look forward to successfully delivering the expressway project along with the roads and drainage and rail projects we are currently working on in Qatar."
