Foster Wheeler wins Kuwait-Vietnam mega-refinery
Firm to provide PMC services for $9bn integrated petrochemical complex
Foster Wheeler has announced today that a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded the project management and consultancy (PMC) contract for a $9bn refinery and petrochemical project in Vietnam.
The Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical (NSRP) Complex is to be constructed in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in a joint venture company between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Kuwait Petroleum, Idemitsu Kosan and Mitsui Chemicals.
The complex will consist of an integrated refinery, processing 200,000 barrels of Kuwait Export crude oil a day the facilities for full conversion, and a petrochemical complex with an integrated aromatics complex and polypropylene production facility.
Umberto della Sala, president and CEO, said: “We completed the front-end engineering design for the complex, and we are delighted to be continuing our involvement with this strategic project during the implementation phase. Our experience in executing major projects in Asia was critical.”
Foster Wheeler will manage and administer through to the completion of performance testing. The project is expected to commence commercial operation in 2017.
