Bids for Mina Al Arab next month

Ras Al Khaimah-based real estate developer RAK Properties will invite bids for one of the main construction packages on its Mina Al Arab project in March.

Tenders will be issued for the construction of precinct five, six and seven of the US $3.5 billion (AED 12.8 billion) project.

"We're keeping an eye out for the best contractors at the moment," said Mohammed Sultan Al Qadi, managing director and CEO, RAK Properties.

The main construction package for the first phase of the Mina Al Arab project, which includes precinct four, has already been awarded to Al Hamra Construction Company. Construction will begin on precinct four once Darwish Engineering, which picked up the US $95.3 million infrastructure deal last year, completes its contract.

Precinct four includes the construction of 200 villas.

"Precinct four is expected to be ready early next year, while we're aiming to complete the entire project by 2012," added Al Qadi.

"Mina Al Arab is going to be one of the most prime mixed-use destinations in the country. It's got the mountains, the sea and the landscape. We're not looking at competing with Dubai in terms of skyscrapers."

"Mina Al Arab will not have any skyscrapers and is being marketed more as a relaxed open-spaced settlement where you can live, work and relax."

According to Al Qadi, 70% of the design for the landscaping and retail outlets, along with 40% of the hotels, has been completed.

Mina Al Arab will span an area of 3.5 million m2 when completed, including 13km of beachfront and a group of islands off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah.
