ADNOC to open green service stations at Yas Island
ADNOC hopes to achieve LEED Gold certification for these stations
ADNOC Distribution announced on Monday that it will be opening two environment-friendly service stations at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi in the coming week.
The new stations, Yas 1 and Yas 2, are located on either side of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, and will function on the principle of increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
Besides being equipped with advanced waste recycling and waste disposal technology, the facilities are also fitted out with energy-efficient lamps and air conditioners using non-toxic gas that minimally impact the ozone layer.
The facilities also contain machines to reduce excessive water consumption as well as environment-friendly air filters to ensure optimal indoor air quality. Dyeing materials and paints used will also conform to low emission specifications.
Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, chief executive officer, ADNOC Distribution, said: "ADNOC Distribution is proud of our environment focus that we have managed to implement at every step of our long journey.”
“Our achievements are even more significant given the fact that ADNOC is among the biggest energy distributors in the local and regional landscape today, which is dominated by sizeable logistical challenges for such eco-friendly operations,” he said.
ADNOC is hoping to acquire the LEED Gold certification for the new stations, which will validate its compliance to globally recognised standards in the measurement of design, construction and operation of eco-friendly buildings.
ADNOC's latest initiative ties in with its commitment to sustainability and the environment in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
"We are happy to tackle any challenge to fulfill the vision of our leadership under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE and supreme commander of the UAE armed forces,” Al Dhaheri said.
“Our strategies are backed by our mission to ensure sustainable development and replenish our natural resources for future generations to enjoy,” he added.
ADNOC says that it has plans to open more green service stations in Abu Dhabi soon.
