NEWS, Projects, Doha, Hotels, Qatar

Best Western International has signed a deal with the Qatari hotel development company Sphinex Hotels & Resorts for the development of a number of new hotels in Doha.

The Gulf Times reports that the agreement will initially include a 75-room property in Doha, but will also allow for future development, with the potential for Best Western to become one of the foremost international hotel operators in Doha.

The announcement was made at a signing ceremony on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel.

“I am delighted to be here in Doha today to celebrate a landmark partnership in this exciting new tourism hub. Qatar is one of the 21st century's great success stories,” Glenn de Souza , Best Western International's vice president (international operations for Asia and the Middle East), told the newspaper.

"In recent years it has transformed into a global power, attracting a huge amount of investment and hosting major international events.

“Today, Doha is a modern marvel, home to outstanding contemporary architecture, world-class sporting and event facilities, and one of the world's biggest air hubs.”

A major new property is slated to be ready by mid-2014 in Doha and will add to the single hotel which Best Western currently operates in the city.

Doha is expected to see thousands of new hotel rooms being built in the run up to the 2022 World Cup to accommodate fans from all over the world.
