ANALYSIS, Facilities Management

The 15 awards showcase a strong selection of the FM industry's remit...

Innovative IT in FM

Technology plays a large part of an efficient building operation and FMs use applications ranging from computer-aided design (CAD) to building management systems (BMS), biometrics, computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) and smart cards.

The aim of this award is to recognise applications that help FMs provide first-class customer service and assist in cost reduction. Evidence should include working examples from the past 12 months.

Functional Fit-out

With companies in the Middle East experiencing rapid growth and expansion, the need for relocation and refurbishment continues to grow.

This award will be given to the facilities manager/facilities management team that can demonstrate a well thought-out, functional and easy to maintain fit-out. Evidence of this is required.

MEP service provider of the year

Three of the fundamental areas to an efficient building operation are mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

This award will be given to the MEP service provider that can demonstrate innovative MEP service provisions, excellent customer/client relationships and cost savings.

Landscaping contractor of the year

While signature buildings in the region are often a focal point for tourists and businesses alike, aesthetically pleasing landscapes help complete a development. But in a region where ground and rainwater is sparse, maintenance and upkeep of these landscapes can prove challenging.

This award will be given to the company that can demonstrate the implementation of innovative ways in landscaping maintenance, including the conservation of natural resources.

Security service provider of the year

The new basic security requirements that have been implemented in parts of the Middle East, have raised the level at which security companies operate.

Judges will look for companies that can prove regulation compliance, excellent and detailed guarding procedures and dedicated staff development.

Cleaning service provider of the year

This award will be presented to the company who can evidence excellent cleanliness throughout their contracts.

Evidence could include the use of market leading cleaning equipment, the ability to match specific cleaning chemicals for particular surfaces, innovative ways of cleaning difficult and busy environments and cost effective cleaning solutions, for example, day vs night cleaning.

Integrated service provider of the year

Facilities management companies who provide integrated or bundled service packages are eligible for this category.

They should provide evidence of successful facilities management execution and best practice that has resulted in cost savings to the client and a more efficiently run operation.

Sustainable Initiative

With many countries within the Middle East now open to sustainable practices, companies are being forced to think about the impact they have on the environment.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship of the facilities management Middle East Awards provides a perfect marketing platform for product suppliers, service providers and organisations to promote their brand, meet potential customers and entertain existing and potential clients.

This award recognises efforts made by companies and organisations, to reduce carbon footprints through corporate social responsibility, energy and water reduction, recycling or procurement practices. This should be evidenced in the nomination.

Training/development

In a bid to secure the future of the FM industry, training and a heightened awareness of FM amongst the wider industry is vital.

This award will go to an organisation that can prove dedication, commitment and innovative ways to ensure this happens.

Customer service excellence

In a region that prides itself on excellent customer service, this accolade provides a platform for both in-house and outsourced teams to receive the recognition they deserve.

Judges will look for the FM team that can prove it provides excellent customer service, day in, day out. Evidence of this could include benchmarking, customer feedback or service level agreement compliance.

H&S initiative

Health & safety is of paramount importance whichever industry people work in. Judges will look for best practice compliance, evidence of substantial H&S implementation - for example, training, workshops, accreditations - and an overall safe place to work, live and play.

Developer's commitment to efficient buildings

Around 80% of a building's costs arise after handover for the operation and maintenance. More and more developers are now thinking about the operation of a building post-handover, pre-construction.

This award will be presented to the developer who can evidence its commitment to sustainable and efficient building, in order to keep the cost of operations down without jeopardising customer service excellence.

Young FM of the Year

Open to facilities managers aged 35 and under who have added value and actively contributed to a successful facilities management operation within any sector, over the past 12 months.

Evidence needed: Proof of age and evidence detailing the contribution(s) made to the company during the last 12 months.

FM Employee of the Year

Has a member of your FM team excelled over the past 12 months? From security guards and cleaners, to technical engineers and help-desk operators, this award will be presented to an individual that has been nominated by their company for showing initiative, commitment and dedication to their job.

Facilities manager of the year

From positively impacting a company's bottom line, to ensuring the building is effectively run with sustainable practices in place. The winner of FM of the Year will be on the company's pay roll (not outsourced) and able to prove they have shown initiative, innovation, implemented best practice and reduced costs within an organisation to reflect a successful operation.
