As many as 16 companies have submitted technical offers for the phase seven construction work tender on Sohar Industrial Estate in Oman.

The expansion project on the special zone has attracted some foreign interest but the list is largely dominated by local firms.

Among the bidders are Towell Infrastructure Projects Co; National United Engineering and Contracting Co; Galafar Engineering and Contracting Co; Al Khalili Construction LLC; Khalid Bin Ahmed and Sons LLC and Al Hassan Engineering Co. Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Oman subsidiary L&T (Oman) LLC; and Indian firms Simplex Infrastructure and Nagarjuna Construction Co International LLC.

The tender was floated in August by the Public Authority for Industrial Estate (PEIE) when around 19 companies expressed interest.

However, three companies failed to submit technical offers by the due date, November 25, when the tender was opened.

Sohar Industrial Estate is one of the biggest industrial areas under the Public Authority for Industrial Estates (PEIE) covering an area of 21.6m square metres – of which 10.7m square metres have been developed and subdivided into 226 plots.

The project is divided into seven stages with the total size of the seventh stage having an area of over 8m square metres.
