Port Saeed Plaza beautification project approved

Dubai Municipality has approved plans for the beautification of Port Saeed Plaza in Dubai.

Dubai Municipality has approved plans for the beautification of Port Saeed Plaza in Dubai.

The US$7.3 million project will turn an empty space in the Port Saeed area into an area of parkland.

Dubai Municipality said the plan is to demolish a temporary car park area occupying the site and replace it with a multi-function plaza, lawn, shaded play areas, water features and a 200 metre jogging track.

"[The project] effectively puts to use a total of 13,893 square meters for the benefit of the residents in a busy neighbourhood," Hussein Nasser Lootah, acting director general of Dubai Municipality, said.

Consultancy Shankland Cox has been contracted to do the landscape architecture work on the project, while Arco General Contracting will provide implementation.

Lootah stated that work would begin "very soon" with construction lasting approximately one year.
