The construction sector has been named as the most stressful market in which to work in the Middle East, according to a new survey.

Job website found that 30% of over 7,370 survey respondents felt the sector was the one which attracted most stress, compared to 23% in banking and finance and 16% in both the media and oil & gas.

Construction was also deemed to have the longest hours by 23% of respondents. The jobs with the best salaries in the UAE were deemed to be in oil & gas (56%) and in government work (30%). Government jobs were also deemed to have the best work-life balance (43% of respondents).

The sectors deemed to have seen the strongest growth over the past 12 months were oil & gas (34%), property (22%) and banking and finance (21%).

Sundip Chahal, CEO, YouGov, said: “Within the UAE, it is very clear which industry is the most preferable, though interestingly the majority of regional respondents are keen to find employment in the IT, electronics and telecommunications industry rather than in oil, gas and petrochemicals.”
