Dubai Municipality has threatened to demolish 18 buildings should a two-week warning to carry out repairs be ignored.

The properties are located in a variety of areas throughout Dubai, including Al Baraha, Al-Wuheida, Al-Qouz 1, Al-Qouz 2, Al-Jafiliyya, Muhaisina 2 and Hor Al-Anz areas. Four buildings on the list are located in the Hor Al-Anz area.

The ultimatum is part of the municipality's efforts to keep the city clean and safe, it said in a statement, adding that all the buildings have been abandoned or neglected without maintenance.

"If the parties fail to respond to the order within the specific time period, the civic body will carry out demolition activities using its machinery," the statement said.

"In the case of civic body taking over the demolition, the owners will be imposed the cost of work plus 20% extra as administration charges," it added.

Dubai Municipality said most of the abandoned buildings serve as a "hot-bed to insects and other creatures that risk health of public".

It added that in some instances, such buildings were found being used for unlicensed businesses.

Building owners can contact the municipality at 800900 for further information, the statement said.
