Liebherr has announced it can now supply a stronger wind power boom system for its LR 1600/2 crawler crane.

When combined with a fixed jib, the new SL10 main boom increases load capacity by up to 20% in comparison to the conventional system.

Liebherr’s new system also increases the LR 1600/2’s hoist height by 15m to more than 160m, while retaining a 71t load capacity at this height. Moreover, the load capacity of the SL10 main boom at a height of 147m has been upped from the standard model’s 71t to an impressive 92t.

The improved specs of the SL10 main boom mean the LR 1600/2 can now be used to erect the latest generation of wind turbines, which can be as tall as 150m.

The new system can be retrofitted onto current machines with the help of a few additional lattice sections. In turn, these sections can be used as kit, making them ideal for those with multiple LR 1600/2 units in their fleet.

The new SL10 main boom does not add to the 3m dimensions of the basic machine. The system has been developed as part of an all-round upgrade to Liebherr’s LR 1600/2 crawler crane.
