Two new Al Meera stores are to be built in Qatar after an agreement was reached between leading retailer Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (QSC) and Shannon Engineering.

The deal was signed by Al Meera chief executive officer (CEO) Guy Sauvage and the general manager of Shannon Engineering Company, Hany Abdel Fattah.

The contract will see Shannon Engineering construct the two stores in Al Muraikh (5,526m2) and Jeryan Nejaima (5,526m2). The stores are expected to open within nine months of construction starting.

In November last year Al Meera announced the construction of seven new shopping stores at Rawdat Ekdeem, Al Azizia, Zakhira, Al Wajba, Muaither, Al Wakra, and Al Thumama and forecasts to open up to 10 branches by the end of 2014.

“The decision to build two more new branches aligns with our expansion policy to make everyone very close to Al Meera stores in every corner of Qatar," Sauvage said. “Al Meera is not only building state-of-the-art stores, but also rehabilitating its old branches and maintaining them to fully transfer to the new innovative concept in order to promote new standards of a comfortable shopping experience in all the branches in Qatar.”

According to Sauvage, the new branches will be contemporary buildings following the design of others recently opened, and the concept of malls that includes the supermarket, many shopping outlets and a number of restaurants.

Fattah said the construction of the two new stores is a testament to the commitment of Al Meera to help the country develop into a world-class shopping hub.

“We are glad to be part of this cooperation. We will do our best to build these two branches within nine months by dedicating all the company’s efforts. Our company will construct both branches in line with our commitment to modernisation in building and designing complexes, taking into consideration the Qatari market requirements. We are ready to collaborate with Al Meera, and share our expertise in order to serve the big retailer’s expansion and modernisation plans,” he added.
