Halcrow appointed design consultant for boardwalk
Developer named by Nakheel for 11km Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk
Halcrow has been named by developer Nakheel as the design consultant for an 11km boardwalk in Dubai.
And the company has said it expects to start tendering for the construction in the second quarter of this year.
The Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk will run the entire length of the island’s 11km protective crescent and is designed to turn the area into a top location for walking, shopping and dining.
The project will cover the whole of the existing crescent and includes a 100m pier stretching into the Arabian Gulf at both ends.
Nakheel will create The Boardwalk by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater.
The Boardwalk will be 6m wide – more than double the width of the existing crescent path – with more than 20 concessions offering refreshments and souvenirs along the stretch.
The piers will offer views of the Arabian Gulf. Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline and feature a range of glass-encased cafes and restaurants.
