Construction starts at The World development
Work on The Heart of Europe expected to last until the end of 2016
Construction work has started at The Heart of Europe project - a cluster of six islands forming part of The World, Dubai's iconic man-made island development.
UAE-based real estate agent Kleindienst Group revealed that dispatching of 600 tons of materials and equipment form the mainland to the islands has begun.
Vibro-compaction of all six islands is the first step, preparing them for buildings to be erected. The construction process is anticipated to last until the end of 2016.
The Heart of Europe is made up of six stunning islands, which include: Mainland Europe, the largest of the islands and inspired by Austrian, Italian, Spanish, German and French architecture, concepts and traditions; Monaco; Sweden; Switzerland; St. Petersburg and Germany. The whole project is a celebration of the continent’s artistic and cultural treasures with each country capturing a different facet of Europe’s unique character while being a modern island hospitality destination.
Once complete, The Heart of Europe will offer visitors and holiday makers the authentic charm of each of its European countries. For example, Monaco will boast all the elegance and opulence of the French Riviera with its magnificent, contemporary villas and luxurious yachts, while Sweden will feature a central marketplace that encompasses the tradition of Stockholm’s famous Saluhall markets.
Josef Kleindienst, CEO of Kleindienst Group, said: “I am delighted to announce that compaction has now started on The Heart of Europe project. This will be a truly unique vacation destination providing an authentic experience of some of Europe’s most charming and timeless features. The six stunning islands will offer leading hotels for families and wedding parties, landscaped gardens, climate controlled plazas, street performers, snow and rain-lined streets and much, much more.
“Dubai is well-known for its innovation, ambition, excitement and intrigue. It is not afraid of dreaming big and this development is a perfect fit for the Emirate.”
The World, master developed by the Nakheel Group’s The World LLC subsidiary, was first announced in 2003 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The entire project spans approximately 9km in width, 7km in length, and is 4.5km from the Dubai mainland coast.
The World’s 300 islands and 27km breakwater were completed in 2008. The development adds an additional 232km of beach-front to Dubai’s natural 67km coastline. The development was created by placing 320m cubic metres of sand and 34m tonnes of large rocks. The World covers over 9,340,000ft2 and is visible from space.
Kleindeinst Group originally broke ground on the site in 2010 but work stopped as a legal spat broke out with The World LLC.
In May last year, however, the two sides settled their dispute and Kleindienst said it would begin work on the show villa.
