The company, one of the world's largest in the field of adhesives and chemical products for buildings, intends to set up a factory and office in Dubai later this year, Gianni Sicuro, export area manager for Mapei, told COD during a visit to the company's headquarters in Milan.

The factory is scheduled for opening in June or July, he revealed.

Mapei has operated in the GCC for approximately five years through locally based distributors. Its project portfolio includes Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai and the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Founded in 1937 as a family-run business, Mapei has become a global enterprise with more than 5,000 employees and 47 operating plants worldwide. The firm reported sales of more than €1.5 billion in 2007.
