Sheikh Mohammed launches container terminal

$850mn electronic container terminal opens in Jebel Ali

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the first remote controlled electronic container handling terminal at Jebel Ali at a cost of $850mn.

The new terminal’s capacity handles four million containers, raising the capacity of three terminals at the port to 19mn containers during this year.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed about the new terminal at Jebel Ali Port by the container handling officials at the operation system. He also viewed a documentary film about the Jebel Ali Port which was established in 1979.

Sheikh Mohammed also issued a law establishing Dubai Investment Development Agency (DIDA), an affiliate of the Department of Economic Development, which aims to boost Dubai’s status as world’s economic centre and attract investments.
