Septech picks up US$13.61mn marina contract

The marine division of infrastructure specialist Septech Emirates has won a US$13.61 million contract to build three marinas as part of the Dubai Marina development.

The marine division of infrastructure specialist Septech Emirates has won a US$13.61 million contract to build three marinas as part of the Dubai Marina development.

The division is to design and build the Yacht Club Marina, Marina Mall waterfront, and West Marina.

Division manager Paul Lane attributed the win to the company's track record in marina development, which includes Festival Marina at Dubai Festival City, and partnership with marina design and installation company Bellingham Marine Australia.

"Waterfront properties have become a growing lifestyle trend, drawing both homeowners and investors from around the globe. Septech aims to raise the bar and provide a distinct identity to the Dubai Marina development," said Lane.

Septech's marine business is growing four fold annually, he added.

The firm said it would install floating concrete systems, called Unifloat pontoons, for the project.

"Concrete has long been recognized worldwide as the preferred material for marina docks. It provides mass for stability, rigidity for strength and durability. And most importantly, using concrete pontoons means there is minimal disruption to the sea bed," said Lane.

The firm's contract will cover design, manufacture and installation of the floating docks, installation of pilling, construction and installation of the pump-out dock, installation of barrier-free access gangways, and installation of dock utilities.

The marinas are slated for completion by 2009.

In addition to marine installation, Septech Emirates service offer covers a range of activities including water and wastewater treatment, landscape and environment, golf course construction.
