$1bn Dubai Tram phase two tenders set for 2015

Second phase will extend network along Jumeirah Beach Road


The tenders for phase two of the AED3.7bn ($1bn) Dubai Tram project will be released in November 2015, exactly one year after the service begins operations.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO – Rail Agency, Dubai Roads and Transport Agency (RTA), told today’s Construction Week UAE Infrastructure Summit 2014 in Dubai, that phase two will add another 5km of track to the existing the network, stretching to the Burj Al Arab and Mall of Emirates before 2020.

Phase one is being built by a joint venture of Besix and Alstom, and Al Ali said 66% of the 11 stations and 99% of the line has been constructed, while 67% of the depot is done.

Phase three, Al Ali said, will extend along Jumeirah Beach Road and to 2nd December Street before 2025.
