STFA nets $109mn Oman coastal road project work

Firm to upgrade and maintain Khasab-Tibat coastal road in Musandam

NEWS, Projects, Khasab-Tibat coastal road project, Oman, STFA

Turkish contractor STFA has won a OMR41.99mn ($109mn) contract on the Khasab-Tibat coastal road project in the Musandam governorate.

Regional manager Vedat Koca confirmed the deal had been awarded by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The scope of work involves additions and improvements to the Khasab-Tibat coastal road in Musandam.

The project comprises the construction of a single carriageway road between Khasab and Tibat, with additional maintenance work along the route.

The road will provide an important link for the isolated villages along the Musandam’s western coastline. It is currently susceptible to rockfalls along certain stretches.

Also in Musandam, STFA is among the 30-plus firms looking to pre-qualify for the $1bn Diba-Lima-Khasab road project, with the winner responsible for operation and maintenance for a 20-year period.

The contract is considered to be a challenging one as the 65km coastal road will involve the construction of seven tunnels to avoid high slopes, including one which will be around 2.2km in length. Some 18 new bridges will be built over valleys as well. The tenders are expected to be released either this month or April.

Koca also confirmed that STFA has just finished building the new Duqm Port in Duqm through a $484mn joint venture with Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), and was now demobilising from the project.
