Tenders to be floated for Duqm Port & Duqm Airport
Both mega projects aimed at boosting Duqm as a regional hub
The final packages related to the Port of Duqm will be floated in the third quater of the year, according to a senior official at the Special Economic Zone (SEZDA).
Eng. Yahya bin Khamis Al Zadjali, deputy CEO for planning and engineering at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm Authority, said the package would include pavement, construction of the buildings for the commercial jetty, which has already started operations, and also the liquid and bulk jetty. The consultancy work for the design for the liquid and bulk jetty has already started, he added.
Turkish contractor STFA recently confirmed to CW that it had finished construction of Port of Duqm and was now demobilising from the project.
Meanwhile, the tender related to the third package of Duqm Airport will be floated also this year, which includes the 500,000-capacity passenger terminal and cargo terminals, added Al Zadjali.
The Oman News Agency reports that the authority expects to hire a contractor in the second half of this year, with the work to last up to 18 months.
The first phase includes the road network inside the airport, the rainwater discharge channels, the potable water, firefighting water, electricity, irrigation, and sanitary drainage and communication networks.
The second package, of which 45% has been completed, includes a 4km long runway, aircrafts parking area, the secondary stations used for lighting, navigation devices for the runways, rain water discharge canals, aisles and aircraft parking, in addition to jet fuel injection system.
