Hoehler+Partner walked away with the Consultant of the Year Award at last night's 2014 Construction Week Oman Awards in the Grand Hyatt Muscat.

The firm was Highly Commended in the same category last year, but this time around the judges said it was a worthy winner.

Hoehler was praised for its passion for preserving heritage while promoting modernity. It was also recognised for its commitment to training and developing Omani nationals.

Muhammed Sultan Al Salmy, managing partner, senior architect, Hoehler+Partner LLC, which recently celebrated five years in Oman, said: "It’s a great feeling and a great recognition for the firm, for the whole team."

Explaining the secret to the company's success in Oman, he said: "Most importantly is to train and to bring something different to Oman. That’s our aim really, to bring in a new kind of architecture, by keeping the traditional architecture, but with more modernity to it. We feel architecture needs to be recognised more in Oman and people need to have an awareness about it and that is what we are trying to do also."

In what was a tight contest, Atkins was Highly Commended.

The Construction Week Oman Awards is an annual event that recognizes and rewards the best the Oman construction industry has to offer. This year's winners and runners-up were decided by a panel of 10 distinguished judges.

This year’s event was supported by gold sponsors Al Watanyiah United Engineering & Contracting Company, Famco and Drake & Scull/GTCC; silver sponsors Al Hassan and Alemco Zawawi; and category sponsor Services & Trade Company.

Support was also provided by Chartered Institute of Building, while winners of each award received a scale model from Famco of one of their machines.

A selection of the best entries from the Oman event will be put forward to the GCC round of the awards programme, which takes place in Dubai, at the end of the year. There they will compete against entries from tributary events in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, plus those from the UAE.
