Better staff conditions demanded

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai has ordered that the city?s foreign workforce be provided with decent living accommodation and secure health and safety standards.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai has ordered that the city’s foreign workforce be provided with decent living accommodation and secure health and safety standards.

In a meeting with the Minister of Labour Abdullal Al Ka’abi, Sheikh Mohammed also demanded the adoption of a health insurance cover for all categories of labourers that provides them with health and medical services.

In another move, the UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan has announced plans to gradually replace Asian workers with nationals to redress the demographic imbalance in the Emirates. Non-nationals account for around 80% of the UAE’s four million population.
