Dutco Balfour Beatty wins $380mn Dubai Mall deal

Firm to extend the world’s largest shopping mall for Emaar Properties

The contract award comes six years after Dutco Balfour Beatty completed its original contract to build Dubai Mall, which is already the largest shopping mall in the world by total area, with over 1.1mn m2 of space.

Dutco Balfour Beatty will build a new fashion avenue between the existing mall and the Burj Khalifa, which will expand its capacity to over 100mn annual visitors.

Balfour Beatty CEO Andrew McNaughton said: "The Middle East is a growth region for the group and we are very pleased to continue our partnership with Emaar Properties on the development of downtown Dubai which builds on the original construction of the Dubai Mall."

The MEP work on the mall will be carried out by BK Gulf, which will use its own pre-fabrication facility to make up mdules off-site.
At its peak, the project will employ over 2,000 workers and is due for completion in early 2016.
