Jumeirah Golf Estates has awarded two contracts worth a combined US $354 million (AED1. 3 billion) for the construction of Phase A of the development to Al Naboodah Laing O' Rourke and ANC Contracting.

ANC Contracting is building 99 villas within the Flame Tree Ridge community and 66 villas in the Fireside community. Mobilisation and preparatory work has already begun in advance for the villa construction.

Additionally, Al Naboodah Laing O' Rourke will construct the Whispering Pines cottages and casitas, together with the Norman Clubhouse and ancillary buildings.

David Spencer, chief executive officer, golf for Leisurecorp, the owner of Jumeirah Golf Estates, said: "Both firms are now part of the team delivering not only unique world-class courses but what will be on completion, the most desirable residential communities in Dubai.

The first phase of villas at Whispering Pines has been excavated for foundations with underground piping work completed and construction on schedule.

The Norman Clubhouse, which broke ground in December last year, is also progressing with excavation for foundations now in progress. The 9,940m² Clubhouse will be home to a practice and golf academy.

To date, grading of the car park and tennis centre has been completed and permanent construction works are due to commence soon.

Meanwhile, work on the Earth and Fire golf courses is advancing, with the grassing of the Earth course to be completed by May 2008 and the Fire course by August 2008.
