Qatar Rail has inked a deal with Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) in a bid to minimise traffic disruption caused by the rail construction programme.

The deal will allow Qatar Rail to use QIMC’s software to monitor traffic conditions, coordinate and manage contractors’ fleets movement in order to reduce traffic congestion, and to promote road safety practices among all fleet drivers and stakeholders.

As part of the agreement, QMIC will design, build, operate, and maintain a Logistics Transport Coordination Center (LTCC) at Qatar Rail’s premises to monitor various operations.

The LTCC will be staffed with traffic experts to deliver key services and intelligence to minimise the impact of logistics operations on traffic flow in Doha and to make recommendations and take appropriate actions if necessary.

Eng. Saad Al-Muhannadi, CEO of Qatar Rail, said: “Qatar Rail is striving to ensure the least amount of disruption to the traffic movement in Qatar during construction of the Doha Metro.

“As we have unique requirements in the areas of traffic monitoring, efficient logistics operations, and road safety, we are pleased to work with a local organisation to contribute to the creation of knowledge-based industries in Qatar through our adoption of the Masarak system and services.”
