MEP: Who are you?
Hans Peter Kyk, general manager of Kamstrup Middle East, based in Dubai Internet City.

MEP: What products and services does Kamstrup provide?
Basically Kamstrup is a solution provider within the energy metering market. This means providing end-to-end solutions to customers, including metering hardware (cooling and heating, electricity, water and gas meters); communications hardware for automatic meter reading (AMR) via wireless, M-Bus, LonWorks or walk/drive by; AMR software; and customer support.

MEP: In which countries is Kampstrup presently operating?
With over 550 employees worldwide, Kamstrup has a presence in a number of countries. Besides the UAE it is in Germany, Holland, France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, UK, France, Spain, Poland, Serbia and China.

MEP: Did the products have to be adapted to suit local climate conditions?
We are highly aware of the environmental conditions in the region being different to other areas. We took that into consideration when designing our products with the ability to operate at high temperature and humidity.

MEP: What prompted Kamstrup to establish a regional office in Dubai?
With the economic growth in the Middle East, rising energy bills and the need for delivering energy in the most cost-effective way, Kamstrup believes its metering solutions and AMR systems will have a place in the market. With our knowledge and experience within metering we can provide solutions that give value and make it easy for the building management or cooling provider to be in full control of the energy consumption. The strategy is to grow the firm as the business grows.

MEP: What projects are you involved with in the Middle East region?
We are involved in a number of projects with AMR solutions; we have supplied a number of high-rise buildings in Dubai and are setting up a wireless AMR system for one of the district cooling companies here. We have also supplied BTU meters to projects in Lebanon.MEP: Do you forsee a futher expansion of the firm in the region?
We realise the customers need for end-to-end suppliers – suppliers who are able to provide a total solution and not just single components and service supplies. To achieve this goal we will partner with qualified firms in the market that can support us in order to deliver total solutions. So the expansion will mainly be through expansion and strenghtening of the partners and in order to support the partners and customers I expect to see some expansion of our staff in the future.
