Shehab Ahmed, MD, Nitty Gritty
0.00 What does your role involve?
My prime role at Nitty Gritty is to build strategic plans for the company, as well as ensure the implementation of the same. Besides this, I’m also very much involved in the management of customer satisfaction levels. This is because we are a customer service oriented industry, and in such industries, the biggest challenge is to maintain the SLA’s and KPI’s for our clients.
1.15 What do you love most about your job?
I love to keep my customers happy and satisfied. Being a managing partner of Nitty Gritty, it is my absolute responsibility to ensure that the service provided to my clients is at par with the industrial standards. The more happy customers you have, the more your business grows.
2.25 What has been your most memorable project and why?
Nitty Gritty was started just a couple of years back, and setting up the company, getting the right people in, penetrating and capturing the market in such a short span has been, by itself, a memorable project for me. Apart from this, we have been successful in maintaining around 600 contracts in almost all the gated communities of Emaar, Nakheel, Union Properties, Dubai Properties and several other developers.
3.05 What is the most challenging thing about your job?
There are many challenges one can face in running such an organization. For me, it is firstly to set up a high standard service at an affordable price. To meet the demands of the new era of the FM industry, one must focus more on the human element, and strive to change our approach from profit-centric to customer-centric. Secondly, the extravagant growth of FM market since the recession has made the FM world very competitive and demanding. Thirdly, the right people! Getting the right people in the company was one of my biggest initial challenges.
4.15 Where do you see the FM industry in five years?
There are a number of new entrants in the FM market today, and so, the share of the pie is gradually reducing. However, FM is an emerging industry in the Middle East. With Dubai winning the bid to host Expo 2020, we can certainly look for a rapid increase in demand for this sector, and one can also think of expansion in the GCC and the Middle East.
4.35 What do you like to do in your spare time?
It’s a tough question for me, since I work almost seven days a week! Still, if I do find some spare time, I usually spend it with family, going out with friends or watching movies. I also particularly enjoy watching and playing football in my spare time.
