UDC rewards contractor for environmental practices
UCE wins 'Environmental Management Contractor of the Quarter' award
Qatari developer United Development Company (UDC) recognised on Tuesday the environmental best practices implemented by one of its contractors operating at the company’s urban development mega project, The Pearl-Qatar.
In a ceremony attended by The Pearl-Qatar’s director of operations, Saeed Al-Sulaiti, and other executives, United Construction Est. (UCE), the contractor of Tower VB-09 and Villa BVN 08 on the island, received the ‘Environmental Management Contractor of the Quarter’ award in the ‘Best Tower’ and ‘Best Villa’ categories, on account of the outstanding environmental practices the contractor employed at the construction site throughout the last quarter of 2013.
"By winning this award, UCE demonstrated a plausible commitment to employing environmentally safe and conscious work standards and practices," said Othman Al Muhannadi, environmental field inspector, The Pearl-Qatar operations environment. "We are proud of their performance and do acknowledge their hard work and highlight their accomplishments."
"While we recognize UCE's accomplishments, we feel very fortunate to have this calibre of contractors working on our island,” Al Muhannadi added. “It's both a challenge and a responsibility to select the best of the best, but we do look forward to having that same challenge when we make our award selections next quarter."
The event was a salute to the efforts contractors at The Pearl-Qatar have been making to comply with the tough environmental expectations UDC has set. The innovative award incentive program is aimed at encouraging contractors to not only meet those standards, but to also exceed them by using and following work practices that are environmentally conscious and in compliance with Qatar's laws and with the environmental policies and procedures of UDC.
The Contractor Incentive Program is an initiative of UDC's Environmental Department. It aims at providing contractors with the incentive to work in a more environmentally conscious manner, follow environmental laws and regulations, create awareness about the environment among workers on the construction sites and be recognized publicly for their performance and accomplishments.
