IPEC, a UK-based electrical engineering company specialising in partial discharge test equipment, has announced that it has won a tender for the supply of portable test equipment to Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Company).

The deal consists of partial discharge test instruments, PD-SGS devices and PD-SG1s systems. The equipment tests for the presence of partial discharge, a precursor to faults, within high voltage switchgear panels.

IPEC’s award follows the signing of a partnership agreement with Doha-based Prime Trade to promote IPEC’s products and services into the Qatar market with this deal being the first step for IPEC in Qatar.

Carl Eastham, IPEC’s business development manager, Mark Taylor, IPEC’s software manager, and Surinder Pal Singh, director of Prime Trade, visited Qatar to conduct an intense four days training course with Kahramaa following the delivery of the systems.

The team put engineers through both theory and practical training on the PD-SGS and PD-SG1 devices, and lectured about the theory of partial discharge and the risks that occur when assets are not monitored. On site practical training also gave the engineers live demonstrations of how to use and maintain the devices.

IPEC and Prime Trade now plan to meet other customers in the market to raise awareness of the products and services on offer which are used to improve asset life of high voltage systems.
