Ex-Orascom managing director to operate international building arm

NEWS, Business

Arabtec Holding has announced that it has recruited Samer Muhtadi as chief operating officer for international operations at Arabtec Construction.

Muhtadi joins from Orascom Construction Industries, where he served as managing director. He has a proven track record in EPC contracting and real estate development, as well as expertise in handling PPP investments in the MENA region.

His appointment follows the recent recruitment of Dr Nabil Allabouni as CEO of Arabtec Construction, and Sami Asad as CEO for Arabtec Egypt For Real Estate Development - the body which will be responsible for delivering its $40bn project to build up to one million new homes for Egypt's Ministry of Defense.

Arabtec CEO Hasan Ismaik said: "I am very pleased to welcome Muhtadi to our organisation. We look forward to drawing on his versatile experience particularly at this time of our global expansion. I wish him all success."

Prior to working for Orascom, he was CEO of Emaar Misr Development, which he led from start-up to becoming one of the biggest foreign investors in Egypt, securing up to $10bn for projects like the huge Uptown Cairo mixed-use scheme and the large Mivida mixed-use project next to the American University of Cairo.
