$1bn Dubai Tram testing to start today

Second phase testing of Al Sufouh line will encompass five stops


Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made a public announcement that the second phase of testing of the AED3.7bn ($1bn) Dubai Tram will begin today (Wednesday, 16 April).

Second phase testing involves running trials between stops six to nine (Marina Towers, Mina Seyahi, Media City, Palm Jumeirah) parallel to Nakheel Metro Station.

The third and final phase of testing is schduled to take place on 14 June, 2014 between stops one to five, which run parallel to Jumeriah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina metro stations. Stops three and five will actually link directtly with Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina, respectively.

The first phase of testing - between stops 10 to 11 and the depot - running parallel to Dubai Internet City and Sharaf DG metro stations began in January.

The first phase of Dubai Tram is a 10km long route, which will stretch along Al Sufouh Road and consists of 11 stations. It is scheduled to start operations in November.
