Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with the Great Britain Island, part of Dubai's The World project, to provide marine transport to and from the manmade development.

The island, which is being developed by the Q Group of companies owned by Safi Qurashi, and the RTA inked a memorandum of understating (MoU) to operate water taxis and ferries to the island once it has been developed into a luxury resort.

Qurashi said he planned to launch his island project and reveal the "exciting plans" soon.

The 20-minute cruise to the island will offer visitors a view of the shores and skyline of Dubai, while also providing an adventurous experience, a statement said.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the RTA by D Yousif Mohammed Al Ali, CEO, Public Transport Agency, RTA, and Qurashi, CEO of Q Group of companies.

“The RTA has always been keen on broadening the Public Private Partnership (PPP) in a way that enhances the services delivered to the public and safeguard the interests of the two sides,” said Al Ali.

Qurashi added: “We had a plan when we bought Great Britain and it hasn't changed. We are delighted to continue work on this renowned project, and are excited about the prospect of delivering our unique vision.

"In the near future we plan to launch the island project and reveal the exciting plans for this unique destination. I believe the World Islands will offer a unique experience in Dubai."
