A massive iconic shopping trolley that has stood outside the Hyatt Plaza complex in Doha for the last 11 years is to be torn down.

The structure was believed to have been the largest shopping cart in the world, although the claim hasn't been officially confirmed.

However, after the arrival of French hypermarket chain Géant last year it was decided the shopping district needed a revamp and the cart had to go.

“The icon doesn’t work anymore. Something new is required,” Firoz Moideen, general manager at Géant told Doha News.

While the trolley heads to the scrapyard, Moideen confirmed a new landmark was being planned to replace it, but declined to give any details.
