Abu Dhabi approves $10.1bn infrastructure deals
Projects part of five-year allocations of $89.9bn previously approved
Infrastructure and service projects worth AED37.3bn ($10.1bn) have been given the go ahead by the Abu Dhabi Government.
The projects, ranging from road and electricity networks, to water drainage and sewerage systems and housing complexes were approved at the Abu Dhabi Executive Council’s meeting chaired by General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The move is in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to spare no effort to ensure that Emirati citizens enjoy a dignified and stable standard of living.
The projects will be implemented in the current year as part of five-year allocations of AED330bn ($89.8bn) that were approved earlier by the council.
This year’s allocations include AED12.7bn ($3.4bn) for housing and social facilities, AED11.9bn ($3.2bn) for government management, AED3.1bn ($843mn) for economic affairs, AED2.5bn ($680mn) for health care projects and AED2.4bn ($653mn) for the education sector.
“The UAE, through the translation of its comprehensive development vision, is mainly targeting UAE human resources, out of its solid belief in man as the main capital and pillar for the success of any future development plans,” Sheikh Mohammad was quoted in Gulf News.
The allocations also include AED17.5bn ($4.7bn) for the water and electricity sector and AED568mn ($154mn) for food commodities.
The council approved the construction of 348 housing units worth AED637.2mn ($173mn) in Al Shuaiba and Al Shuwaib residential projects.
The Al Shuwaib housing project is being set up over an area of 390,000m2, and comprises 186 housing units costing AED333.9mn ($90mn), while Al Shuaiba occupies an area of 420,000m2 and includes 162 housing units costing AED303.3mn ($82.5mn).
The council also approved a 112km-long road costing AED515mn ($140mn) in Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi, and a AED237mn ($64.5mn), 20km-road in Mohammad Bin Zayed City.
The council also awarded the construction of the National Rehabilitation Centre to a contracting company. The project involves the building of a rehabilitation unit for drug addicts, administrative and service buildings. And it passed the construction of a road network and the upper interchange of the Abu Dhabi airport, as well as setting up new spaces for nine craft.
