Tenders submitted to construct two five-star and four-star hotels at Oman’s Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) are being evaluated.

According to a report in the Oman Observor, there are 13 to 17 contractors in each category vying for the construction of the hotels with OCEC.

Once complete, the hotels will provide more than 11,000 rooms.

And senior project manager, Ahmed El Hassan, revealed quality of workmanship will be considered above the price of tenders submitted.

He told the Observor: “We don’t go straight to the lowest bid and award the contract; on the other hand, we will evaluate the bidders as to their credibility and solidity and then we will take whoever qualifies in this round to the next round of offering them with the financial tender.”

“We are in the process of evaluating the tenders submitted by various contractors for construction for the two five-star and four-star hotels inside the OCEC premises and the results will soon be intimated.”

Additionally, tendering for construction of the 3,200-seater lyric-style tiered auditorium, two banquet halls, ball rooms, two meeting rooms and the associated facilities, is out to the market and offers are to be submitted towards the beginning of next month.

Located at Hayy al Irfan in Bawsher, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre Project is situated within a 1.6mn m2 purpose-built, fully integrated business precinct and has been designed to accommodate world congresses, exhibitions, regional meetings, gala events, performances and concerts.
