F+G working with Ashghal to improve contracts
New contracts will be designed to encourage more collaboration
Faithful+Gould is working with Ashghal to improve the Public Works Authority’s contracts in Qatar.
The suitability of Ashghal’s contracts were questioned at the recent CW Qatar Leaders in Construction Summtt, with delegates and speakers insisting that more collaboration needs to be encouraged and the spread of risk in contracts be addressed.
Charles Kadri, associated director at Faithful+Gould, said work is being carried out to redevelop Ashghal’s contracts.
“This appointment is strong evidence that Qatar understands the requirements to adapt the existing contracts to support a new procurement strategy that promotes a collaborative approach and risk sharing for the delivery of major projects,” commented Kadri.
“The objective is to create a contractual basis that is fair to both parties based on international standards.”
Kadri added that he fully supports a move towards better collaboration within Qatar’s construction industry.
“It is an essential element for a successful delivery of these large and iconic projects,” he said.
“This approach benefits both parties and its main objective is a successful delivery of projects on time, on budget and as per agreed standards.
“Early engagement between all parties and clear understanding of the client's objectives are promoted to mitigate disputes and manage risks.”
