ISG wins $35mn Kempinski MoE refurb contract
UK fit-out contractor to refit 393 rooms at Mall of The Emirates hotel
UK-based interior fit-out contractor ISG has secured a $35mn (£21mn) contract to refurbish all 393 rooms at Majid Al Futtaim Properties' Kempinski Mall of the Emirates hotel.
The firm said the work involves upgrading all guest rooms, suites, ski chalets (next to Ski Dubai), meeting rooms, gym and spa. The contract, ISG's biggest hotels project in Dubai to date, also involves an upgrade of the hotel's exterior.
The firm will work alongside developer Majid Al Futtaim Properties, operator Kempinski and architect Aukett Swanke as lead consultant.
Stephen Embley, the head of Aukett Swanke's Middle East operations, said: ‘It is exciting to be working on one of the most recognised hotels in Dubai. The refurbishment of Kempinski Mall of the Emirates is a challenging undertaking because it will remain a 24/7 environment throughout the programme which is made even more complex by the fact that it’s a fairly tight and confined site.
"We are depending on ISG’s experience in carrying out the fit out works with the minimum possible impact to the guests’ experience."
ISG, which recently picked up a contract to refit stores for Louis Vuitton and Nike in Paris, an Abercrombie and Fitch store at Chengdu in China and a project at Hong Kong Disneyland, has also been awarded a Queen's Award for International Trade.
Chief executive David Lawther said: "Our growing international reputation, diversified service offer and larger project capability makes ISG well-positioned to take advantage of recovering overseas markets, especially in the hospitality and retail sectors.
"Securing a Queen's Award for International Trade is an independent validation of our achievements to seek sustainable growth from overseas markets and further diversify our business."
