Qatar seeing 'significant increase in activity'
Number of major contracts to be awarded, says industry expert
Qatar’s construction industry is seeing a significant increase in activity, with a number of key contracts to be awarded this year, according to an industry expert.
Speaking to Construction Week, Atkins’ director of Rail – Qatar, Gordon Lindsay, said the Qatar market is progressing well.
“Last year was dominated by awards from Qatar Rail, and we’re obviously very pleased to be involved in a number of projects,” said Lindsay.
“Outside of the rail market, we expect the market to be dominated this year by major contract activity from the infrastructure sector, mainly in expressways, highways, drainage and bridges.
“We have been seeing a significant increase in market activity in terms of requests for prequalification, tendering and contract awards since the second quarter of last year and this is expected to continue through this year and the next.
“Some of the major infrastructure contracts that we expect to be awarded or tendered this fiscal year include Kahramaa Mega Reservoirs, IDRIS Programme, additional contracts from the Public Works Authority Expressway programme, Sharq Crossing and infrastructure associated with large urban developments such as Lusail.”
