The deadine for bids for what is being called the '7th crossing' has been extended until 24 April.

According to a source bidding for the project, the scope of work has increased, which could take the project value to over US $190.5 million (AED700 million).

The new scope of work will now include electromechanical works, the construction of monitoring stations, lighting and tunnel ventilation.

The project, which has a completion schedule of 22 months, also includes the construction of a 1.2km road from the T-junction close to the Floating Bridge on the Bur Dubai side of the creek. The road will have three lanes on either side.

Work may involve bulldozing a number of buildings and part of Rashid Hospital's boundary wall to make way for the new road, which will join Oudh Metha Road.

The contract also includes the construction of a tunnel that will run from the Oudh Metha Road under Maktoum Bridge to Strand Cinema in Bur Dubai.

An arm of the same road coming from the Floating Bridge could also be connected directly to Sheikh Zayed Road.

Companies believed to be bidding for the project include the local Wade Adams, UK-based J&P, Emirati-British joint venture Dutco Balfour Beatty and Italy's Todini.
